Frequently Asked Questions
about Commissions
Everything is made to order in my studio, based on your photos and ideas.
Each piece is developed individually, with a focus on character, atmosphere, and feeling rather than strict photographic realism.
Before starting any final work, I usually begin with a sketch (for ceramics and some other pieces) so we can settle on composition and direction first.
Once a piece is underway, it’s made slowly and by hand so nothing is mass-produced, and small variations are part of the process.
-
You send your reference images and a short description of what you’d like.
For ceramic pieces, I’ll usually start with a sketch for approval before making the final work. Once approved, I begin the piece in my studio.
Other work (painted, digital, house illustrations) is developed directly from your references, with updates if needed.
-
No, realism isn’t the goal in my work.
I’m more interested in character, expression, and atmosphere rather than accuracy. Each piece is an interpretation of your reference images, not a direct copy.
-
A 50% deposit is required to secure your commission and begin work.
The remaining balance is due before the piece is shipped or collected.
Work will not be sent until full payment has been received.
-
Small refinements can be made at the sketch stage.
Once the final piece has started, no further changes can be made. At that point, the piece is being made in my style and approach.
-
Because each piece is made to order, deposits are non-refundable.
If a commission is cancelled after the sketch stage, the deposit is still kept.
If there is no response after completion for an extended period, the piece may be considered abandoned.
-
Timeframes vary depending on the type of work:
Ceramic pet trinkets: up to 8 weeks
Painted, digital, and house illustrations: around 4 weeks
These are estimates and may shift slightly depending on workload or kiln schedules.
-
Yes.
Orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked 24 (or international tracked services where applicable).
Shipping is paid by the client.
Once a piece has been dispatched, I cannot be responsible for delays, loss, or damage during transit, but everything is carefully packaged from the studio.
Local collection can also be arranged.

Ceramic pieces are primarily decorative.
They are handmade in my studio and each one is slightly different. Variations in glaze, texture, and finish are part of the process.
They should be handled with care unless otherwise discussed.

I reserve the right to decline any commission if it doesn’t feel right for my work or studio practice.
